Day01: ArriveColombo
Welcome, meet and assist at airport and transfer to Kandalma. Enroute visit the
Pinnawela elephant orphanage. The orphanage is home to about 60 elephants, found
abandoned or orphaned in the wild. Rest of the day free, overnight stay at Kandalama
Hotel. Occupying a unique site in the cultural triangle''s heartland, Kandalama
is flanked by two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the 1st Century BC Dambulla rock
temple and the 5th Century AD Sigiriya rock fortress. Overnight stay at Kandalama
Hotel.(B)
Day02: Kandalama/Medirigiriya/Minneriya/Kandalama
Morning excursion to visit Medirigiriya temple. Medirigiriya is famous for its
7th Century Vatadage Temple atop a low rocky point. There are 3 concentric rows
of pillars, making a total of 68, surrounding four large seated Buddha''s facing
four directions. This excursion will help to show the historical evidence of the
cultural association with elephants in Sri Lanka. Do a safari of Minneriya National
Park by jeep. The Minneriya tank and the wetlands in this National Park provide
very important habitats for animal and plant species. Wild elephants, various
amphibians, local and immigrant bird species are plentiful, and during the dry
season large number of elephants move into this park. One can see more than 150
elephants at a time during this period. Overnight stay at Kandalama Hotel.(B)
Day03: Kandalama/Habarana/Kandalama
In the morning take an elephant back safari along a beautiful path into the dry
zone forest. In the evening there is an excursion into the forest area to see
the elephant footmarks. On this session your interpreter will explain to you how
to measure the height of an elephant during this excursion). Overnight stay at
Kandalama Hotel.(B)
Day04: Kandy
Morning departure for Kandy. On arrival in Kandy take a sightseeing tour. The
last capital of the Sri Lankan kings, Kandy is now a World Heritage Site. Visit
the lake built by the last Sinhala King in 1798, the bazaar, the arts & crafts
center and gem museum. Evening visit to the ''Temple of the Sacred Tooth'' containing
the tooth of Buddha, followed by a cultural show featuring traditional Sri Lankan
dancing. Overnight stay at Earls Regency Hotel. The best time to see tamed elephants
in Sri Lanka is the annual ''Kandy Esala Perahera'' (held in July and August),
which is one of the most important religious festivals for the Buddhist population.
Every year over 100 tamed elephants are beautifully dressed up and paraded along
the streets, for the Perahera festival. Overnight stay at Earls Regency Hotel

Day05: Kandy/Udawalawe
Morning departure to Udawalawe National Park, travel from park entrance to the
campsite by 4WD jeeps. Lunch will be served at the campsite. During the evening
take a jeep safari to Udawalawe National Park. The area is a dry zone park, which
was declared a national park in 1972 and is famous for its elephants. Often whole
herds can be seen bathing, playing or feeding. In addition to the elephants, spotted
deer, barking deer, gray langur, water buffalo, jackal and numerous birds are
found in this park. Overnight stay at the campsite of Udawalawe National Park.(HB)
Day06:Udawalawe/Yala
Take an early morning jeep safari into the park looking for elephants. Return
to the campsite for breakfast before traveling to Yala National Park. During the
evening take a jeep safari of Yala. The park is the largest and one of the most
beautiful National Park in Sri Lanka and is reputed to have the highest concentration
of leopards in the world along with wild elephants, wild boar, wild buffalo, bear,
deer and crocodiles. Overnight at Yala Village (B)
Day07: Yala/Galle/Ahungalla
On the way to the Triton Hotel, take a city tour of Galle, which was once the
chief port of Ceylon and is now a World Heritage Site. If you wish you can also
visit the Galle Fort, spanning 90 acres, which was originally built by the Portuguese
and later extended by the Dutch in 1663. Overnight stay at the Triton Hotel (B)
Day08: Ahungalla/Colombo
After Breakfast at the Triton Hotel transfer to the airport or to one of the beach
hotels to extend your stay in Sri Lanka.
